Why did we Elope?
The honest answer is... it is what we wanted. Even before we were engaged we knew we didn’t want a traditional wedding. After our engagement, we started talking about what we wanted for a ceremony. We talked about the expectations of family and friends. We brainstormed ideas of what it would look like, who would be there, and the location. We knew wanted a small intimate wedding. We worried that a traditional wedding quickly snowballs into a stressful, expensive event. We have always been very private about our relationship. We wanted our wedding to reflect that. It didn’t take long for the topic of elopement to surface. We both gravitated to it. We asked Google about our options. St. John caught our attention. It is considered to have the most romantic sunsets. Connor and I continued to research. Images of crystal clear blue water, white sandy beaches and limited civilization continued to tempt us. It was also in the United States, so our marriage would be legal. It was perfect. Shortly after our engagement, we booked flights, hotels, an officiant, and a wedding date with a ceremony planned for sunset. The major details were all arranged. It was so hard to keep it secret for four months. We are so happy to share the experience with you now.
